panoramas

I love it when I find free photo editing software!

The most recent program added to my collection is an incredible panorama-making tool called "Hugin".

If you are interested in making panoramas, this program is a must-have!  It's super-simple, yet incredibly powerful.  It is able to automatically arrange and stitch your pictures together in a single panorama, whether they are horizontal, vertical or even grid-style panoramas.

I have been able, at the push of a button, to stitch forty-one pictures together in a grid pattern, and it was flawless! Since I downloaded this program it has opened up so many creative opportunities!

About the pictures . . .
Ocean
Taking a pictures of a crashing wave is not too difficult - the brightly lite ocean allowed me to keep the ISO down and speed up my shutter in order to freeze the motion nicely; but capturing an ocean  panorama was more of a challenge.
Fortunately, my camera shoots at eight frames-per-second, allowing me to quickly scan across the scene before the wave moved too much.

Poppy Mountain
Located only a mile from my home is this magnificent view.
If you look closely in the bottom left corner you can see the road that winds it's way like a snake into the canyon. I was able to achieve this wide-angle picture by turning my camera on it's side, so the width of the cameras' field of view was vertical, otherwise you wouldn't have seen the poppies I was standing in.  Then I took three pictures, each one overlapping the last - the more overlap the better. The sky was added later using GIMP.

Focus on the little things - "In Search of Tiny" - If I were small . . .

Growing up on books like "The Littles",
I've always entertained the thought of being small.

Often when I look at things I'll pretend that I am tiny.
I try to imagine how the perspective would change - instead of stooping low to look at a flower, you would look up at it, perhaps even climb it.

A leaf would become a boat;
my coffee mug would be the most amazing lake ever!

The keyboard I'm  typing on would be a mysterious labyrinth of pinnacles - it takes all you have to jump from one key to the next,
falling into the deep crevices between the keys
and never being heard from again is your greatest fear.

So next time you go to snap a picture try several different angles - you'll be surprised what you find!

Focus on the little things - "In Search of Tiny" - The adventure has begun. . .

-The arachnid of gigantic proportions -

Arachnid is just a fancy word for spider.

Though definitely part of the tiny world,
this furry fellow is a giant in his own realm.

With legs that can regenerate (should he loose one), and retractable claws, it's amazing how God equipped the tarantula.

I have not begun to tell all they can do -
like defend themselves by throwing barbed hairs at you.

Slowly crawling along near my front porch, he made for a perfect subject for the first post in this series "In search of tiny".

In future posts I will be delving into even smaller things.

Focus on the little things - In search of tiny

After equipping my camera with a 50mm f/1.8 STM lens and a macro- filter, we will embark on a search for tiny. This adventure will take us to a realm where we can see the hair on bugs and the veins in a leaf! Stay tuned and subscribe to my blog - www.LukeEBoyArt.blogspot.com - as I will be posting pictures that focus on the minutest of God’s detailed creation!  Join me on my journey as we "Focus on the Little Things"

plastic shark
I was scuba-diving off the California coast… just kidding!!!
Once again the way-cool, free, photo-editing software (gimp) has taken me on a
 virtual photo shoot adventure!
I created this photo by combining two pictures (one of a lake and the other of a plastic shark) adding a bunch of filters did the rest.

Tip: in order to make the water appear as though I am looking up at it, unlike I was when I took the picture, I flipped it upside down. That way, the water is further away at the bottom of the photo and closer at the top.

photography - night sky- moon over hot springs, south dakota

the moon over hot springs, south dakota

lately i have been discovering the power of taking pictures in raw, particularly ones that you need to digitally brightened.              in this picture i only brightened the edges.

in the original you could't see any of the clouds outside of the orange ring.

when shooting in raw, your pictures are twice the size of a jpg and that means twice the amount of  data to work with!

if a had not taken this picture in raw there is no way I could have brightened it up, without a terrible amount of grain and discoloration.
Details - f/4 - exposure 1/2 sec. - ISO 800 - lens 18-55

photography - night sky

As most people were climbing into bed, my good friend Kevin and I were scaling the side of a steep mountainside. As those in bed were closing their eyes, the shutter on Kevin's Canon EOS 7D Mark 2 was wide open, taking in every spectacular detail of the southern starscape. With only a slight bit of color enhancement the results were stunning.
Details - f/3.5 - exposure 30 sec. - ISO 2500 - lens 18-200

focus on the little things

For me, photography is a way to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
I figure if God went to the trouble of making something,
maybe we should take a moment now and then to look at it - and it brings glory to God when we do.

photography & music are two of the things I like the most & that’s what this blog is all about.
Not only to share my own art but to also give helpful hints, tips & inspiration to
help you get started or
just improve in your creative endeavors.
This blog is still under construction & is rather lacking right now,
but I’m going to put a lot more stuff on in the future so make sure you subscribe.

God created this magnificent earth & even gave beauty to the littlest things - so often we do not stop to admire the details.
One thing I really enjoy about photography is showcasing the things most people trample under foot.

Not only do I play music, but I also design & make my own instruments.
I believe that music is a God- given gift. I pray that all my music would be glorifying to Him.
Make sure you listen to the music I have written at www.noisetrade/luke
